Kristen Steinvorth – Bridals

•January 5, 2012 • Leave a Comment

Bridals are a fairly new concept for us.  In California, you’ve got engagements and then pictures are taken on the wedding day or after.  But here in Utah (and some other states), the Bride get’s all gussied up and has her own photo shoot in her gown long before the wedding happens.  I’ll admit that I thought this was weird at first.  But now that we have done a few, I really quite enjoy the Bridal sessions.  They provide some really special memories for the mothers and sisters of the bride.  The trick to the bridal session is that you can’t show off the results until after the wedding…such torture for the photographer!

Well, we’ve been sitting on Kristen’s bridal session for weeks.  Now that she is up and married, we can show you all the vintagey-goodness we were able to capture on that day.  For Kristen’s bridal session, we got some amazing shots, but we also were able to witness her mother, grandmother and soon to be sister-in-law bond.  Such a sweet time of being together and preparing for Kristen’s future as a married women.  I am, of course, such a sucker for all the little details that hold so much value in these images.  Kristen was wearing a veil custom made by her now sister-in-law, her great Aunt’s mink stole, and her mother’s pearls.  That stuff just makes me all kinds of giddy!

Here are some of our favorite shots from that afternoon.

In The Hood – The Wingate Family

•December 6, 2011 • Leave a Comment

What do you get when your neighbors are your photogs and you need some family pics?  You may think it is as easy as walking next door….but where is the fun in that!?!  So instead we had our neighbors, the Wingates, get all gussied up, off-road through a field, haul a couch to the middle of a field and wait until that last hour of great light in the sky.  Now that is more like it!

Here are some of our favorite moments from that evening.  Hope you enjoy enough to leave a comment (*WINK*)

The Hymas Family

Remember back in grade school when they taught us about the seasons of the year?  I distinctly recall there being four separate seasons…Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter.  Yep, there were definitely four.  Apparently not every state in our lovely U.S. of A experience all four of these changes.  Utah, for example, has no Fall Season.  Yes, I’m sure there is a highly educated scientist somewhere wearing a sweater-vest who would disagree with me.  But if you ask anyone who actually LIVES through this weird transition between summer and winter, Fall is not a word that would come up in the conversation.  This can be very tricky for us photographers who prefer shooting outside and in nature.  The days are very suddenly short and the weather drops from 70 down to 30 overnight.

We recently set out to photograph the Hymas family.  What should have been a quick trip to the mountain and back became a two-day affair because as soon as we set foot on the mountain, the sun decided to go to sleep… FAST.  Luckily for us, our clients rock! We arranged to continue at an earlier time once the weather decided to cooperate.

Here are a few of our favorite shots from the whole ordeal.  Couldn’t ask for a cuter family to have an extended shoot with.  Thanks Hymas Family!

The Brosseau Family

•November 11, 2011 • 2 Comments

Meet the Brosseau family.  Ricci and Joe are two seriously laid back parental units and their kids are little tornadoes of energy.  Shooting families is always an adventure, but when you have four kids all under the age of eight, you’d better be ready for one crazy afternoon!  Luckily for us, their kids are all kinds of smiles and cuteness…which makes for some great shots.  Here are a few of our favorite moments from that afternoon.  Hope you enjoy!

Jocelyn Lunsford

We love watching families grow.  Being apart of those precious moments in life is so much fun for us.  Our clients have no idea how much we enjoy hanging in the bushes during a wedding…balancing on the side of a mountain for a family shot…or taking over a living room to shoot a darling new addition to the world.

Well, Scott and Julie Lunsford have a new plus one to brag about!  Little Jocelyn was born 2 weeks ago.  Big sister Shiloh is still getting the hang of the new competition, but is so in love with her new sister. And watching Scott swoon over his two girls is the most adorable thing you’d ever want to see.

Congratulations Scott and Julie – You make some good-looking kids!

Here are some of our favorite shots of the day.  Hope you enjoy enough to leave a comment (hint, hint).

Shiloh is such a great big sister!

Well…..almost.  This is a sign of things to come.

Kristen and Tyler (and Jax too!) – Engagement and Family

•October 29, 2011 • Leave a Comment

Tradition is a tricky thing.  It can hold entire cultures together over centuries.  It can tear entire cultures apart.  Some of us find comfort in tradition and some of us find it horrifying.  What begins as a lesson from our elders or society soon becomes that which defines the theology of our lives.

Kristen and Tyler would be considered those who did not take the “traditional” approach in their relationship.  However, theirs is a story that celebrates what can come out of a road outside of tradition.  Their path is uniquely theirs and has brought them a cutie-patootie of a son and a comfort with each other that is so enjoyable to be around.

We had a blast one Saturday afternoon with this young family in the park.  It’s not everyday that your engagement sessions are also family portraits!  But telling their story without their son Jaxson would only represent a part of who they are as a couple.

Here are a few of our favorite moments of that afternoon.  Congrats guys – we’re looking forward to December!

The fall colors are such a perfect setting for this love story…

I love Kristen’s laugh.  Apparently she has been told that her eyes resemble a chicken butt when she laughs (which is just crazy), but I think she is adorable….and I wish I had her skin!

Here’s Jaxson!….

It wasn’t easy to get images of Jax that are not him in motion.  Thankfully there was water nearby to capture his attention for at least a minute.

If there is a wheelbarrow just sitting around….we can’t help but give it a spin!

Tyler is such a corn dog!

How stoked were we to find this wall!?!

We love hearing your thoughts, so please leave a comment.

The Stotesbery Family

•October 19, 2011 • 1 Comment

We live in one gorgeous place.  It is almost impossible to find a bad spot for a photo shoot in Salt Lake City and the surrounding mountains.  And with the awesome clients we have, wherever we end up is just plain fun!

We recently spent a Saturday evening with the Stotesberys.  We’ve known Amoz and Jenivere for a while now.  Amoz is one cool cat who loves music and super easy-going and his wife Jenivere is one of the hippest domestic goddesses we know.  We packed the cars with their five chicklets and headed out to Little Cottonwood Canyon for some fun.

Before we get to the pics, I need to take a moment to say how in awe I am with Jenivere’s peaceful energy.  After shooting a family of seven, I come home and am ready for a nap, but Jenivere came back to the house, whipped up some delicious home-made pizzas and sent us way with a yummy loaf of bread….and all with a smile on her face and an infectiously calm spirit.  I bow to you oh domestic one.  I can only hope that I will reach such a peace with my small clan of four.

We so loved spending the evening with you all!  Here are some of our favorite shots from that day.  We hope you enjoy them as much as we enjoy spending time with you.

-Sam

Amoz knew of this old abandoned building in the woods.  Not only did it provide a great backdrop, it provided the kids with entertainment – swinging on chains, jumping between buildings…luckily everyone was up to date with their tetanus.

For anyone who has ever had kids, this will bring a smile to their face.  Noah is at that age where he wears his favorite shoes everywhere….even when his toes are literally growing out the front.  I love this!

Noah strikes again with the old ‘pirate face’ pose…

Like I said – abandoned buildings provide loads of entertainment for the fam…

…and while the kids play, mom and dad have some entertainment of their own…

These kinds of moments make my heart smile.  Dad admiring mom who is admiring their kids….

Aleya is a supermodel in the making.  Amoz better be ready to scare some boys straight!
